Shit is Awesome!
I happened upon this today and can't believe I haven't been seeing it all over the internet cuz it's wicked!

The Real Heat

THE REAL HEAT on MySpace
"Come We Go" and "Stand and Deliver" are fucking killer! They are three sisters from London, and produce all their own shit and have released several singles on their own label.

I had the day off yesterday and it was awesome. I was so sick about a week ago I had to take two days off, so those didn't really count as a break.

I can't stop listening to this dude's YouTube account...

http://www.youtube.com/user/HardcoreNoise

191 songs!!! All from his late 80's / early 90's acid and hardcore 12"s. I have smoked so much weed, and I am DYING BY THE BASS!!!! Church of Extacy, Awesome 3, Altern 8, Acen, tons of XL stuff... it goes on and ON. It just never ends. I'm in heaven!

By the end of the day I'll be speaking in breakbeats!

I don't have to work til 3! WHEEE!

ALSO! DUH! How did I never know about the Acen remix of "I Got Soul" by Eric B and Rakim??? WHAT????

"IN LIVING COLOR" (TV SHOW) MEETS ELECTRO!

I'VE SEEN THIS LOOK EVERYWHERE.
I LOVE IT, EVEN THOUGH I WAS ALREADY MOCKING IT IN 2005 (REMEMBER MY "1991" PHOTOSHOOT?) BECAUSE I KNEW IT WAS INEVITABLE.

OMG! I've listened to this over and over! It's crazy! The first track on this side is awesome too. It's "Don't Go". I never knew it at all but my friend Chris Howe sent me an MP3 like 5 years ago. So "Headstrong" was new to me! It's fucking awesome. Someone else uploaded the B side which is the "Kicks Like a Mule" remix of "Don't Go". It's all fucking good.

Any era becoming nostalgic is inevitable. It's just how pop culture works. I feel like people are going to have a hard time defining the 00's though because nostalgia has totally been the focus. But even in the 80's, what we think of as "80's" now was the 50's to the people in the 80's!

I get what you are saying.

"I feel like people are going to have a hard time defining the 00's though because nostalgia has totally been the focus."

Fredric Jameson (postmodern academic thinker dude) said some stuff about how our postmodern generation is all about nostalgia, rather than real history. I think that is our hallmark, maybe.

I do think that they way we have created our postmodern pastiche might crystallize later. Right now, we are taking our own methods for granted, but I think our methods might come across as unnatural, inorganic, and more obvious at a much later time. Does that make sense?

I know nothing of the sort! I am just so stressed about our current belief in what satire and parody are. And how obsessed people are with it. I really really really want these "spoof" movies to stop. Every time I see an ad for one, I lose a year of my life because I can't help but become so angry.

I FEEL YOU - I'M REALLY OVER SATIRE RIGHT NOW.

I READ THIS REALLY INTERESTING BOOK:

ABOUT THE CULTURAL INFLUENCES THAT ARE PUSHING THE SATIRE MACHINE INTO HIGH GEAR. THE AUTHOR ARGUES THAT SATIRE REALLY EXPLODED IN THE 20TH CENTURY, AND IT EXPLODED EVEN MORESO IN POSTMODERNITY. WHAT'S NEXT? I DON'T KNOW.

P.S. NEO-EXPRESSIONISM IN FINE ART WAS THIS REACTIONARY ART MOVEMENT IN THE 70S/80S, WHERE PEOPLE WERE MAKING THESE LUSH, "MEANINGFUL," FLAMBOYANT PAINTINGS AMIDST AN ART WORLD ENTRENCHED IN MINIMALISM AND "CONCEPTUAL" ART. WHEN YOU LOOK AT NEO-EXPRESSIONISM, YOU CAN TELL WHAT IT IS OFTEN FROM IT'S JUXTAPOSITIONS, SORT OF LIKE HOW OUR POP CULTURE NOW RECYCLING NOSTALGIA AND SPINNING A SIMULATION OF "MEANINGFULNESS," NOT CREATING AN ENTIRELY NEW STYLE. I CAN'T REALLY EXPLAIN THIS THAT WELL. I THINK IF I COULD SHOW YOU THIS PART IN THIS BOOK I READ, IT WOULD HELP.

I ALSO THINK THAT MAYBE THE IRONIC-JUXTPOSITION TYPE OF TRENDS IS JUST THE REPETITION AND PERFORMANCE OF THE SPIRIT THAT UNDERSCORED NEO-EXPRESSIONISM IN FINE ART.

WE ARE DOING THIS HYPER-CRUNCHING OF NOSTALGIA, AND I THINK AT SOME POINT, THE WAY WE PRODUCE OUR NOSTALGIA PASTICHE AND THE PACE/TEMPO WE HAVE WITH OUR PRODUCTION - I THINK THAT WILL MAKE IT LOOK DIFFERENT IN THE FUTURE. SO, I THINK THAT IS HOW PEOPLE IN 2025 WILL RECOGNIZE 2000.

ALSO! I THINK IT'S INTERESTING TO THINK ABOUT HOW OUR GENERATION IS GOING TO BE NOTED NOT FOR OUR INVENTION OF SPECIFIC OBJECTS OR AESTHETIC STYLES, BUT WE WILL BE KNOWN MORE FOR OUR JUXTAPOSITIONS OF NOSTALGIC OBJECTS. LIKE, JUXTAPOSITION WILL BE SO CLICHE' AT SOME POINT, WHERE PEOPLE WILL BE LIKE "THAT IS SO 2000."

OMG totally! Well, and so much of it has become so predictable anyway. I mean I was sick of it 8 years ago when I walked out of the first Scary Movie and that style of humor has not evolved at all in 8 years. It's just heap a bunch of references to shit that JUST came out together, add MORE sexism, MORE racism, MORE everything-phobia, and some drug references, put Carmen Electra in it and it is HI-LARIOUS.

Oh, yeah! I was totally thinking about that while listening, like "I wish I listened to this when it came out, it would have been more shocking."

I was thinking today about how my decision to watch movies a couple of years after they come out (and the critics and masses have already picked the wheat from the chaff for me) - I'm thinking that's a mistake - because I'm missing the 'original context.'

Sort of like how I saw "Pink Flamingos" after it's not shocking anymore, and I already knew what to expect.

I am not 100% sure if original-context vs. context-of-years-later is the best space to experience things. Ya know me, I'm an ol' experience junkie, and I want bang for my buck, so I think about this.

[info]kristy_chan

I used to think experience culture in it's initial context was the best, most authentic, and "more real" way to experience things.

However, postmodernity has made me think that authentic experience is a social construct.

So, I'm on the fence.

HAVE A QUESTION.
IS THE OLDSKOOL RAVE STUFF SAMPLED FROM OLD SONGS?

THIS SONG HAS A PART IN IT THAT I SWEAR I'VE HEARD IN THAT KANYE WEST SONG "DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE."

DID KANYE BORROW FROM THIS RAVE SONG? OR, ARE THEY BOTH BORROWING FROM ANOTHER OLDER SONG?

DO YOU HEAR THE SAME PART IN THESE SONGS? OR, IS IT JUST ME?
